Today's a special day

25 years ago today, the very, very first Transformers comic hit the newsstands.  That makes the brand 25 years old, and still going amazingly strong, especially considering it's a toyline first and foremost, not a story.  In fact, a lot of the major story elements (Unicron as dark god, for instance, which is now a central fixture) didn't really come into play for several years afterwards.  It nearly died out after Generation 2 before Beast Wars (and especially Mainframe's excellent animated series) jolted the line with a serious new burst of energy and creativity along different lines, and it's still going strong today.

I assume Hasbro's going to celebrate by laughing all the way to the bank.
